BANGKOK: The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok is working closely with Thai authorities to locate a Malaysian man reported missing since last week.

Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Malaysia to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said he has instructed his team to cooperate with the family of the missing individual, Andy Jee Ying Kit, 30, from Sarawak, who reportedly arrived in Bangkok on Jan 8.

"The consular team has contacted Andy’s cousin, who provided details about his trip to Bangkok on Jan 8 based on the information provided by Andy's friend,” Bong said when contacted on Tuesday (Jan 21).

He added that the embassy’s consular section has obtained the missing person’s police report and passport details to assist in the search.

However, Bong noted that the Thai authorities may need additional time to check his entry record and to investigate Andy's disappearance if he is in Thailand, based on the information provided by his family.

Earlier, Andy's cousin posted on social media seeking help from the public after he failed to return to work for two days following his holiday.

According to the post, Andy was scheduled to return to work in Singapore on Jan 15, but his phone has been disconnected, prompting a frantic search for him. - Bernama
