Two uniformed unit members remanded in false claims probe

MELAKA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Melaka has remanded two members of a uniformed body from a security agency in Johor for allegedly submitting false claims for annual camp training allowances two years ago.

Magistrate Nabilah Nizam issued the six-day remand order, from Tuesday (Jan 21) until Jan 26, after the MACC filed the application at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court in Melaka on Tuesday morning.

In a statement, Melaka MACC said the two suspects, aged 42 and 31, were detained when they turned up at its office at 5.20 pm yesterday to give their statements to assist in the investigation.

"The two suspects are believed to have submitted false details related to claims for annual camp training allowances for Series 3/2023, amounting to RM25,733.59, despite certain personnel not attending the training conducted about two years ago," the statement said.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the false claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher. - Bernama
