Datuk remanded in Taiping for CBT


IPOH: A man with a Datuk title has been remanded at the Taiping Magistrate Court for allegedly committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) last year.

He is believed to have been bestowed with the Datuk title from Sabah.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat said that the 51-year-old suspect was a director of a licensed moneylending company.

DCP Zulkafli said the suspect was accused of dishonestly misappropriating company funds without the knowledge or consent of the company.

"The remand has been approved for five days starting today (Jan 21) and the case has not yet been charged as it is still under investigation.

"The investigation is under Section 409 of the Penal Code for Criminal Breach of Trust by an agent," he said when contacted.

It is learnt that the suspect is a director of multiple credit community companies in Taiping and was entrusted by his business partners to manage the credit community company.

The suspect is also said to have held various important positions in the community, including schools and houses of worship.
