SIBU: The Public Service Commission has three interview centres in Sarawak and another one is in the planning stage.
"There are 17 interview centres throughout the country. As Sarawak is the largest state in the country covering an area of 124,450 sq km, it has three centres - one in Kuching, Sibu and Miri - as compared to a centre each for other states," said Public Service Commission chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus.
Speaking at the opening of the Sibu centre at UTC on Monday, Dr Ahmad said the commission was looking at setting up another centre in Limbang provided that the number of job applicants is justifiable.
The Sibu centre had been in operation for 12 years in Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai before relocating to the UTC.
"This centre is capable of accommodating up to 200 people at one time.
"SPA Sibu Interview Center is SPA One Stop Centre (OSC) which not only facilitates candidates to undergo an interview, as it provides a number of services such as computer and Internet facilities to sit for the Service Entry Assessment Public (PSEE) - Psychometric Testing, consultation related to SPA9 and various other services the other.
"This is an important step to ensure that every candidate's affairs can be carried out more easily, saving time and cost, especially for candidates from Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Kapit," he added.
Dr Ahmad said SPA Sibu interview centre was also the eighth in the country that was operating in the UTC building. The others include Perak, Penang, Perlis, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Kuching and Miri.
