Thorough screening procedures conducted on foreign tourists upon arrival, says Immigration

PETALING JAYA: The proper immigration procedures are being conducted to screen tourists, says the Immigration Department.

Responding to social media posts claiming that Chinese tourists were entering the country without being checked properly, Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that those claims were false.

“The increased number of Chinese tourists entering the country is a positive impact of government policies that had promoted Malaysia as a prime tourist destination for the Visa Liberalisation Plan (PLV).

“For the record, the rate of incoming Chinese tourists after the PLV saw an increase of almost 140% from 1.6mill in 2023 to 3.9mill in 2024.

“In addition to increasing the efficiency of the management of foreign visitor entry and reducing wait time, the Home Ministry has allowed travellers from 63 countries to use the auto gate system at KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. This includes Chinese tourists,” he said.

He also said that eligible travellers would also need to fulfil requirements such as being free from any travel blacklists and having completed the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), except Singaporeans who are exempted from the MDAC requirement.
