They talk to me: Man nabbed for attacking police station after 'hearing voices' in his head

MELAKA: Police have arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly vandalised the Tanjung Kling police station here with a hammer.

Acting Melaka police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi said the suspect was detained at 12.40am on Friday (Jan 10) at his home in Tangga Batu here.

He was suspected of throwing a hammer at the station on Tuesday (Jan 7), damaging a glass panel in front.

"The suspect told my men during questioning that 'voices' in his head told him to commit the act.

"He rode to the station on his motorcycle at 10.10pm that night before throwing the hammer from outside," SAC Nazri said on Friday.

He said the suspect then fled the scene, leading to a manhunt.

SAC Nazri said two police personnel in the station at the time were unhurt.

He added that a motorcycle and other items were confiscated during the arrest, and the suspect tested negative for drugs.

He said the man has been remanded until Monday (Jan 13) for investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for committing mischief.
