Floods: 423 evacuated in Perak's Muallim district


IPOH: Flash floods in Muallim have displaced 423 people.

The Perak disaster management committee secretariat said that as of noon Wednesday (Jan 1), the victims are seeking shelter at Dewan Kampung Chinggung and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sungai Sekiah following continuous rainfall since Tuesday (Dec 31) afternoon.

They consist of 402 people from 79 families from Kampung Chinggung and 21 people from 11 families from Kampung Sungai Sekiah.

According to the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Sungai Bidor in Hilir Perak is at the warning level while Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak is at the alert level.

According to the Meteorological Department forecast, rain is expected in several districts in the evening until nightfall, including Muallim, Batang Padang, Hilir Perak, Kinta and Kampar.
