PU Azman sentenced to jail, caning for additional sexual assault charge

KUALA LUMPUR: Celebrity preacher Azman Syah Alias – also known as PU Azman – has been sentenced to six years in prison and one stroke of the cane for sexually assaulting a boy seven years ago.

He pleaded guilty to the additional charge of committing physical sexual assault against a 17-year-old boy seven years ago before a Sessions Court in Seremban.

This marks the fourth time he has been sentenced to prison.

Judge Rasyihah Ghazali ordered the 43-year-old Azman to serve his sentence at Kajang Prison starting Monday (Dec 30).

During the same proceedings, the court ruled that the second charge against the actor from the drama 7 Hari Mencintaiku Musim Ketiga would be taken into consideration under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The decision followed a notification from the prosecution that earlier this month the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) had accepted a representation submitted by Azman Syah’s defence team in October.

On Dec 22, 2022, Azman pleaded not guilty to two charges of committing sexual assault on the victim in a room at a homestay on Jalan Kebun between midnight and 5.30am in Sept 2017.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning.

This is the fourth time he has been sentenced to prison, following a seven-year sentence and two strokes of the cane by the Seremban Sessions Court on Dec 17.

On Sept 27, Azman was sentenced to 24 years in jail and two strokes of the cane at the Sessions Court in Klang after being found guilty of physically assaulting a 17-year-old boy two years ago.

On Dec 6, he was sentenced to 14 months in jail after pleading guilty to gross indecency against a teenage boy.
