Traffic crawl at border checkpoints as Malaysians head north to Thailand for the holidays


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians heading to Thailand for the school holidays saw traffic congestion at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS) border checkpoint.

As at 12.30pm on Saturday (Dec 21), the traffic flow at the complex was still reported to be congested at both the car exit points as well as the exit inspection counters.

"However there is no congestion at the entry inspection counters.

"For the comfort and safety of all, do obey the traffic rules and the instructions of the officers on duty.

"Your patience is greatly appreciated," said a joint statement by the Immigration department and the Home Ministry on its Facebook on Saturday.

The Kota Putra Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex is also seeing an increase in traffic flow into Thailand.

The school holidays start from Saturday (Dec 21) until Dec 29.

China remains Thailand’s largest tourist source market, with 6.3 million visitors, followed by Malaysia (4.6 million), India (1.96 million), South Korea (1.72 million), and Russia (1.55 million).
