Senior citizen dies after getting into traffic accident in Kluang


KLUANG: A senior citizen died after being involved in a fatal road accident at KM56.5 along Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing here.

Kluang Deputy OCPD Supt Nik Mohd Azmi Husin said that the police received information coming from the public about a road incident involving two cars at around 9am on Wednesday (Dec 18) morning.

He added that the deceased has been identified as Patrick Lau Yuen Heng, aged 78, while the other victim was 34-year-old school teacher Mohamad Hafiz Muhamad.

“Initial investigation found that the deceased was coming from Kluang town and headed towards Taman Megah while the second victim was coming from Batu 3 heading towards town.

“At the location, the deceased had turned right to enter Jalan Serindit while the other driver was going straight.

“This led to the victim’s car hitting the deceased's car on the left side resulting in the deceased's vehicle turning turtle,” he said here on Wednesday (Dec 18).

Supt Nik Mohd Azmi added that the deceased sustained serious head injuries due to the crash and died at the scene while the second victim suffered minor injuries to his body and was still receiving treatment at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here.

He said that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged those that witnessed the incident to contact Kluang police district hotline number at 07-776 6822.
