Freedom of Information Bill to be tabled in 2025, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA: The much-awaited Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill will likely be tabled in Parliament sometime next year, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the decision was made after a Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance meeting on Monday (Dec 16).

"Among the topics discussed was the proposed policy for the drafting of the FOI Bill and the meeting agreed that it should be tabled in Parliament in 2025.

"This will pave the way for enhanced transparency in the public service by ensuring every individual's right to access information under the jurisdiction of the government is both safeguarded and protected by law," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Anwar added that the meeting also discussed the establishment of the special task force for the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) earlier in Oct this year, chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

He stressed that this move was aimed to improve the country's image and perception regarding good governance in the public sector at the international level and among foreign investors.

"The government is committed to continuously strengthen the national governance agenda, enhance integrity, and combat corruption in line with the Malaysia Madani aspirations," he said.
