Chinese national waitress charged with murder of colleague


KUALA LUMPUR: A Chinese national restaurant waitress was charged in the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Dec 17) with the murder of a fellow citizen last month.

Yang Yahong, 34, nodded as the charge was read to her in Mandarin before Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The woman is accused of killing her colleague, cashier Zhang Wei, 34, at a restaurant in a shopping centre at 4.30pm on Nov 29.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The court set Feb 12 for mention for the submission of the autopsy and forensic reports.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri represented the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. - Bernama
