GEORGE TOWN: Thousands of prospective students and parents thronged the last day of the Star Education Fair 2024 at the Setia Spice Convention Centre yesterday to enjoy the many attractive packages.
The packages offered rebates of up to RM1,000 to those who registered during the two-day fair, as well as financial aid, scholarships, free counselling and guidance sessions for education and career pathways.
Some wanted to check out the foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by 32 higher learning institutions that took up 52 booths.
Among them was Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) which had a dozen representatives and counsellors engaging prospective students at the fair.
MCKL Programme Leader Cambridge A-Level Dr Lim Chien Seng said the college received many inquiries from students and parents about the programmes, especially at its campus in Lebuh Pykett, George Town.
“Currently, we have several programmes at our institution such as pre-university courses, Cambridge A-Level and Western Australian Certificate Education (WACE),” he said.
The college offers five diploma programmes – Digital Business, Digital Marketing, Computer Science, Information Technology and Early Childhood Education.
With the exception of Early Childhood Education, the other four diplomas are linked to the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA).
Students who join the four programmes will get to enrol in a more prestigious university.
The programmes will commence in January.
The International Medical University Malaysia (IMU) is also expanding its programmes.
Engagement marketing and enrolment manager Low Chiew Yeong said the institution offered interesting and exclusive scholarships and financial aid to students from 50% to 100%.
IMU was formerly known as International Medical University which offered medical and health science programmes.
“After re-branding, we are expanding to cover technology, business and communication programmes.
“We are moving towards more comprehensive healthcare programmes,” she added.
Located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, IMU also offers prospective students a foundation programme in arts.
Low said students can enrol in the business administration programme after their foundation studies.
IMU will host an Open Day at the main campus in Bukit Jalil on Jan 19.
Meanwhile, Mahsa University offered a RM700 rebate for prospective students who registered during the fair.
The university also had several scholarship options for deserving students.
Senior business development executive Muhammad Siddique Kajar Mydin said 96 programmes in various faculties such as Medicine, Business, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Engineering and Education are offered at the main campus in Bandar Saujana Putra, Selangor, and another two at the Penang International Dental College.
“Most of the programmes that students were interested in during the fair were medicine and business-related,” he said.
The Star Education Fair 2024, now in its 37th year, is one of the country’s pioneering education exhibitions.
It has continuously provided visitors with educational programmes ranging from pre-university, diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate to professional and vocational courses from various local and international institutions.
