Johor proposes four initiatives to address congestion in greater JB area


JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has proposed four initiatives to address the congestion in the greater Johor Baru area to the federal government.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that proposal was given during the third 2024 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Traffic Congestion on Wednesday (Dec 11), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur.

"The meeting centred on strategies to tackle traffic congestion, particularly in Johor Baru and the Klang Valley, highlighting the pressing need for solutions to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety.

"During the session, the state government tabled several initiatives aimed at alleviating congestion and improving transport infrastructure," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 11).

Key proposals include developing enhanced traffic dispersal networks and identifying 77 congestion hotspots within the greater JB area involving four local councils, and establishing Park and Ride facilities to support bus services.

"We also proposed expanding bus route coverage to improve accessibility and upgrading road infrastructure across Johor, with a focus on the greater JB region," he said.

The committee also approved the formation of a special task force comprising representatives from Johor and the Transport Ministry, he added.

"This task force will address congestion issues and improve traffic flow for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) in Johor Baru," said Onn Hafiz.
