Universities must not be an avenue for bullying, says Sultan of Pahang

CYBERJAYA: Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah cautioned university students against becoming bullies.

“Those who bully have the potential to make this behaviour a habit that is difficult to break, including in the workplace or social life.

“Bullying can lead to death, and its effects do not stop there. Individuals involved in the act of bullying as perpetrators or victims often carry the trauma into adulthood.

“Universities like MMU should be a place for positive change and not a place for bullying. I hope this will not happen at MMU or other universities,’’ His Royal Highness said.

The Pahang Ruler addressed bullying issues plaguing educational institutions during his speech at Multimedia University’s (MMU) 25th convocation ceremony at its Cyberjaya campus.

During the ceremony, the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah were conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees of Management in recognition of their remarkable contributions to the field.

Meanwhile, the Sultan also said that youths contribute to a large portion of individuals involved in substance abuse and that the habit may only start with acts like smoking and vaping.

“Universities should be places for positive self-development, not a field of division due to social issues like these,” His Royal Highness said.
