The Star wins big at 2024 CIDB Construction Media Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: The Star won top prizes at the Works Ministry (KKR) Media Appreciation Night and the 2024 CIDB Construction Media Awards on Tuesday (Nov 26) night, taking home five awards in four of the six categories featured.

The Star Education Assistant News Editor Rowena Chua took home first prize in the Print Media and News Portal Award for Feature.

In the Infographic Award category, The Star executive editor (content design) Tung Eng Hwa, Abdul Razak Ahmad Idris, Muhammad Shyafiq Dzulkifli, Mohd Izudin Ismail, Foo Chern Hwan also took home first prize.

mStar journalists Iwan Shu-Aswad Shuaib and Nazwin Izan Ahmad Nazri won second prize in the Print Media and News Portal Award for Special News Report.

In the Photography Award category, photographers Mohd Faihan Mohd Ghani and Art Chen Soon Ling took home second and third prizes, respectively.

First-prize winners received RM5,000 cash, while second and third-prize winners won RM3,000 and RM2,000, respectively, along with trophies and certificates of appreciation.

Merit award winners took home RM1,000 and certificates of appreciation.

The seventh edition of the awards, held at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur, acknowledged the work of media professionals in reporting the developments and achievements of the construction sector, which plays an important role in the country's development.

Among the categories featured included the Online Video and Television Broadcasting Media Award for Special Report and Documentary, and

the Radio Broadcasting Media Award.

Jointly organised by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), the event honoured 40 members of the press and was officiated by Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan.

CIDB Malaysia is a statutory body under the Works Ministry.

CIDB Malaysia president Yusuf Abd Wahab and chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zaid Zakaria, MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong, chief editors of media agencies, and journalists were also present at the event.
