Man killed in Bangsar South after lorry reverses into traffic

KUALA LUMPUR: A 32-year-old lorry driver was detained following an accident, which killed a motorcycle rider in front of a mall at Jalan Kerinchi.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at 8.34am on Saturday (Nov 23).

"The lorry driver was refilling the vehicle's brake oil at a construction site when the lorry suddenly reversed, smashing through the site's security gate.

"The lorry went into the main road and hit the 32-year-old rider. The rider tried to evade the lorry but to no avail.

"The impact of the collision threw the rider underneath one of the lorry's tyres," he said in a statement.

The rider died at the scene, he said.

"Another man, who was also driving his car on the same road, sustained a minor injury on his forehead," he added.

ACP Zamzuri said the lorry driver has been detained for further investigation.

"The case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
