Police report lodged after villager obstructs Sabah Electricity staff, leading to injuries

KOTA KINABALU: A police report was lodged on Monday after two Sabah Electricity staff members were injured in a vehicle accident while fleeing from an irate villager who obstructed them from carrying out their duties in the Lahad Datu district.

The incident occurred around 11:30am on Monday (Nov 18) when the company vehicle they were in swerved and overturned on a palm oil plantation road. One worker sustained minor injuries to the left hand, while the other suffered a sprained left leg.

According to a statement from Sabah Electricity, the staff members were in Kampung Sepagaya conducting a power disconnection operation at homes with outstanding electricity bills.

“The company vehicle was parked by the roadside as the staff reviewed the list of disconnections when a man in a pickup truck approached them and aggressively tried to force open the vehicle door," the statement read.

"In a panic, the staff attempted to drive away, but the man pursued them in his car. The situation quickly escalated and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and flip onto its side among the palm oil trees," the utility company explained.

A police report has since been lodged against the individual for obstructing the staff.

“Sabah Electricity will not tolerate any threats to the safety of our employees. Legal action will be taken against anyone who deliberately interferes with our operations,” the company added.
