Johor's eco-tourism areas to close for monsoon season


JOHOR BARU: Several eco-tourism and forest areas in Johor will be closed during the upcoming monsoon season to ensure public safety.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the closures, implemented by the Johor State Forestry Department, include Eco Rimba Parks, State Forest Parks, hiking trails, extreme sports trails and the Panti Bird Sanctuary.

“These areas will be closed to visitors starting Nov 15 until further notice, except for Gunung Arong Eco Rimba Park and Gunung Arong Hiking Trail, which will remain open until Dec 16 before closing,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Nov 16).

Ling added that the Johor National Parks Corporation has also announced closures of several eco-tourism sites under its management.

“The Gunung Ledang Waterfall has been closed since Oct 14 and will remain so until Dec 31 for upgrading works.

“Endau-Rompin National Park and Gunung Ledang National Park (Lagenda Forest) will close starting Dec 1 until further notice.

“This proactive decision aims to safeguard visitors from potential hazards associated with heavy rains and flooding during the monsoon,” he explained.
