Trump wins the US presidency, says AP

PETALING JAYA: Donald Trump has won the race to the White House, clinching 277 electoral votes over Kamala Harris' 224 at the time of writing.

With his win, the 45th president of the United States will return as the 47th.

He made history as the first convict to be appointed to the country's highest post and only the second president to win non-consecutive terms.

Trump won major victories in the key battleground states of Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania on his path to the White House.

He is also heavily favoured to win in Michigan.
