Five-year-old boy killed in Tawau fire


KOTA KINABALU: A five-year-old boy was killed in a midnight fire which destroyed some 38 houses in Tawau.

The fire which was reported at 12.55am, Sunday (Oct 27), at Kg Jati Tawau, had razed through the village and ravaged around 1.57acres of land.

Fire and Rescue Department officials managed to bring the fire down under control at 2.28am and discovered the charred remains of the boy at 4.50am.

The body was handed over to police for further action while firemen were able to wrap up operations on-site at 5.59am.

With that, they have started their probe into the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile in Kota Belud, firemen managed to contain a fire from spreading further in a water village at Kg Buah Pandai, which started around 4am.

The fire damaged a total of 11 houses but firemen saved another 16 from being burnt to the ground.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

Firemen brought the fire under control at 5.09am and operations at the scene ended at 6.15am.
