OPENING DOORS TO ELITE UNIVERSITIES

CHOOSING the right institution is a critical decision that can shape the trajectory of your academic journey and future career.

With the vast array of options available, selecting a university that aligns with your personal goals, offers the right resources and provides industry-relevant opportunities is more important than ever.

Whether you’re aiming for higher education or building a solid foundation for a successful career, the right choice sets the stage for long-term success in an increasingly competitive world.

Take, for instance, Taylor’s College A-Level programme student Wardina Wafin Mohd Nizam, who successfully navigated this decision and found the ideal environment to grow academically and personally.

“I chose Taylor’s primarily for its strong academic reputation, especially for pre-university programmes,” says Taylor’s College A-Level programme student Wardina Wafin Mohd Nizam.“I chose Taylor’s primarily for its strong academic reputation, especially for pre-university programmes,” says Taylor’s College A-Level programme student Wardina Wafin Mohd Nizam.

This was partly thanks to the melting pot of cultures at the college, as Wardina states that the institution fosters a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

“I chose Taylor’s primarily for its strong academic reputation, especially for pre-university programmes. But, what stood out to me the most was its diversity”, she says.

“Being surrounded by people from different backgrounds has given me firsthand experience of living in a multicultural environment, which is invaluable for me during my studies overseas.”

By choosing Taylor’s, Wardina gained access to top-notch facilities, comprehensive support systems and strong industry linkages.

She is currently pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance at the London School of Economics.

One key resource she highlights that has helped her to get into the institution in the UK is Taylor’s University Placement Services (UPS).

The centre provided invaluable guidance and support on university applications to further her studies.

“UPS arranged a physical meeting with my personal statement advisor, allowing me to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of my personal statement.

“This support has helped me tremendously in creating a strong personal statement that showcases my interests and abilities,” says Wardina.

She adds that UPS also organises a variety of informative events and talks to aid students in writing effective personal statements and help them understand the admissions process when choosing a university.

“My time at Taylor’s has been incredibly rewarding.

“The community is very welcoming and I’ve gained more than just academic knowledge here, as the college has given me the platform to grow both academically and personally,” shares Wardina.

“Choosing a good college for your foundation is extremely important, as it provides access to better resources, experienced lecturers and events that can help you prepare for university applications.”

Taylor’s College A-Level programme student Rameeya Ganesan hopes that her experiences can encourage college students to apply to top universities without the fear of rejection.Taylor’s College A-Level programme student Rameeya Ganesan hopes that her experiences can encourage college students to apply to top universities without the fear of rejection.

Another A-Level programme student from Taylor’s College, Rameeya Ganesan, shares a similar journey of academic growth and ambition.

Like Wardina, she is currently furthering her education in the UK, pursuing a degree in Economics at the University of Cambridge.

Initially, Rameeya never envisioned herself applying to such a prestigious university, but the encouragement from her lecturers sparked a newfound belief in her potential.

“My psychology lecturer, Ms Sonika Sharma, saw my potential and suggested I apply to Cambridge and Oxford.

“I was hesitant at first, but the guidance and support from my lecturers and the UPS team was invaluable,” she says.

Rameeya also engaged in various extracurricular activities at Taylor’s, such as participating in economics-related competitions and peer-to-peer tutoring programmes, as well as being an active member of the Bursa Young Investors Club.

She opines that this helped her gain a deeper understanding of economics and an added edge in her application to Cambridge.

“You have to be consistent in your academics throughout your semesters.

“But, the evaluators will also look at your extracurricular activities – how they shape you and what soft skills you have developed,” Rameeya shares.

Based on her experience of applying to renowned universities, Rameeya says that undergraduates should not be afraid of seizing opportunities to apply to top universities.

“I realised that – among my peers – many of them stop their applications in the early stages due to fear of rejection.

“I hope that my experiences can change this perspective among college students and encourage them to try – because you never know what will happen until you do.”
