Mother, daughter suffer second-degree burns in house fire


MELAKA: A mother and daughter suffered second-degree burns after the house they were in at Kampung Bukit Gedung, Tanjung Kling caught fire at 9.40am on Thursday (Oct 17).

The mother, 36, and seven-year-old daughter who suffered burns to their legs and arms were rushed to the Melaka Hospital by paramedics.

Tangga Batu Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Snr Fire Officer II Mohamed Azuani Mat Yusuf said the department received a distress call about the fire at 9.48am and deployed a team of 16 firefighters with two engines and paramedics to the scene.

"As soon as they arrived, they found that the 40x40 sq ft semi-detached house was on fire, along with a pair of Yamaha Y15 and Honda EX5 motorcycles.

"A seven-year-old girl and her mother suffered second-degree burns and were sent to the hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement here on Thursday.

The fire was put out totally at 12.17pm while investigations continue into the cause of the fire. - Bernama
