Ceiling collapse at gas station in Kinabatangan, no injuries reported


KOTA KINABALU: The ceiling of a gas station in the Kinabatangan district collapsed, damaging six vehicles, on Monday (Oct 14).

According to the report, which came in at 4.47pm, the incident occurred at the fuel station along Batu 8, Bukit Garam, and no one was hurt.

“A team of seven from Kinabatangan Fire Station went to the location where the ceiling dropped on six cars underneath the structure at the time.

“However, no casualty was reported, and the team removed the debris to a safe location.

“After ensuring there are no more risks, the operation was ended at 6.59pm,” said the Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, adding that policemen and Rela personnel were also there for assistance.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Tawau district, a 19-year-old Pakistani motorcyclist was killed when he was involved in an accident with a school bus.

Firemen retrieved his body, which was pinned under the bus using special tools. The victim was declared dead by the police on site.

A call came in initially at 2.51pm, reporting the fatal accident at a road along Kampung Kalabakan there, and a team of 10 from Tawau fire station was dispatched to the location.

“After retrieving the remains, the body was handed over to the police for further actions and the operation ended at 4.50pm,” said the Department spokesman.
