Mahkota polls: EC confirms landslide victory for BN


KLUANG: Barisan Nasional's Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has officially won the Mahkota by-election with a 20,648-vote majority.

Returning officer Azurawati Wahid made the announcement at 9.11pm at Dewan Tunku Ibrahim Ismail here on Saturday (Sept 28).

Syed Hussien, 40, won the seat after garnering 27,995 votes while Perikatan Nasional's candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar received 7,347 votes.

According to the Election Commission, some 53.84% out of the 66,318 Mahkota voters, had turned out to cast their ballots in the by-election.

This is a slight drop from the 55.7% voter turnout during the Johor state election in March 2022.
