Escaped Sg Buloh prisoner found in Kuantan

PETALING JAYA: A prisoner who escaped while receiving treatment at the Sungai Buloh Hospital has been re-arrested at a bus terminal in Kuantan.

The Prisons Department said the arrest was made by prison officers at 11am on Monday (Sept 23) at the Kuantan Rapid Bus Terminal, Pahang, based on investigations and information received from the public.

The prisoner was from the Sungai Buloh prison.

"The department has confirmed the re-arrest of a remand prisoner who escaped on Sept 18 while receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit of the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

"The remand prisoner has been handed over to the police for further investigation," said the department in a statement.

The department said based on the recommendations of the Board of Inquiry, it would take firm and immediate action against any individuals found to have been negligent in their duties, which led to the prisoner's escape.

On Wednesday, Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the escapee had eight prior police records, for criminal and narcotics-related offences.
