More than a dozen uprooted trees cause chaos in Perak

IPOH: The Perak Fire and Rescue Department has (Sept 18) responded to 17 cases of uprooted trees in several locations in the state on Wednesday (Sept 18) alone.

While there were some injuries reported, most of the cases involved damaged vehicles.

In Kamunting, two people, believed to be a man in his 40s and his teenage daughter, were seriously injured when a tree fell on the motorcycle the man was riding on Jalan Kamunting, near Taman Glen View.

In that same incident, two women sustained light injuries, while three others in the car escaped unhurt.

The department’s operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said as of 6pm, 17 cases of fallen trees were reported.

He said in Gerik, a tree fell on a car, but the public managed to remove the vehicle before firemen arrived in an incident that did not cause any injury.

In Sungai Siput (U), a car and a lorry parked by the roadside at Batu 1, Jalan Lintang, were damaged.

“A distress call was made at about 1.42pm, but thankfully, no one was injured.

“Our men have been cutting up the branches of all the uprooted trees to ensure the safety of road users,” he added.
