Falling tree crushes car in George Town, rescue ops underway

GEORGE TOWN: Two people are believed to have been killed when a tree fell onto their car in Lebuh Gereja here.

The duo, who have yet to be identified, were inside the car parked within the compound of Pinang Peranakan Mansion during the incident at about 2.30pm on Wednesday (Sept 18).

Rescue operations are ongoing as firemen are on the scene to saw off the branches to retrieve the victims.

Trees have been reported to have fallen in many areas in Penang, according to the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

Among the affected areas are Lorong Perak, Church Street Peranakan, Jalan Titi Kerawang, Anson Road Penang, Scotland Road, and Mount Erskine.

Workers are on the ground to clear the trees.
