Strong wind sweeps through Penang amid the rain

GEORGE TOWN: Several areas in Penang are experiencing power outages due to fallen trees says Tenaga National Berhad (TNB).

It said the fallen trees had broken powerlines, causing blackouts in several areas, including Teluk Kumbar, Bayan Lepas, Tanjong Tokong and Teluk Bahang.

TNB said that technicians are on the ground to repair the damages.

Strong winds coupled with rain lashed through parts of Penang, including south of Kedah, on Sunday (September 15).

Satellite imagery shows the storm blowing from northwest towards southeast, in the direction of Perak.

The rain in Penang, which started with drizzles at about 6pm turned heavy by 8pm.

In a Sunday statement, the Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) issued a warning. It forecasted thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds for areas in Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Johor, Terengganu, and Kelantan until 10pm on Sunday.
