Old mortar shell detonated in Tampin

SEREMBAN: Police carried out the destruction of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), an old mortar shell found by the public, in an oil palm plantation in Jalan Batu Belang, Tampin, at 11.51am on Monday (Sept 9).

Tampin police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the UXO was destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) of the Negeri Sembilan contingent police headquarters (IPK) and the Tampin district police headquarters (IPD) Bomb Disposal Unit after they received a report of the discovery at 8.42am.

"A team went to the scene, which was cordoned off as a restricted area, and identified the UXO as an 81mm mortar shell with a length of 36 centimetres," he said in a statement here on Monday.

He said the work of destroying the bomb was done without any injuries or damage to property. – Bernama
