AN outbreak of rotavirus has infected at least 15 children and a 27-year old woman after their visit to the Che Minah Sayang Recreational Park in Maran, Pahang, Sinar Harian reported.
The victims could have contracted the contagious virus from contaminated river water, said Pahang Health Department director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman.
He added that the cause of the contamination was likely from the irresponsible disposal of used baby diapers.
“The victims suffered stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and fever. Laboratory tests confirmed rotavirus.
“All the affected children are in stable condition and receiving treatment at Hospital Jengka, while the woman, who is the mother of one of the children, was treated as an outpatient,” he said.
Dr Rusdi said the park’s management has been instructed to conduct a thorough clean up.
