61-year-old man drowned while fishing in Sungkai


IPOH: A 61-year-old man drowned while fishing near the Jalan Menderang Bridge in Kampung Buntong near Sungkai here.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the incident occured on Saturday (Sept 7) at 1.43pm.

"The victim, Ishak Safie, is believed to have been fishing and was suspected to have drowned.

"Upon arriving at the scene, the victim had already been rescued by three villagers," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He added that the victim was then brought to the riverbank for first aid.

"The Fire and Rescue team arriving at the scene, under the direction of the operation commander, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim.

"The victim was pronounced dead by the Health Ministry and handed over to the police for further action," he added.
