Merdeka spirit across Sg Melaka

Pride and patriotism: To celebrate the 67th National Day, pre-war bridges in Melaka like the Kampung Jawa and Pasar bridges have been adorned with lights and the Jalur Gemilang.

MELAKA: The historical city is gearing up for next week’s National Day celebrations by decorating and lighting up its pre-war bridges across Sungai Melaka.

The festive decorations at two historical bridges, Jambatan Kampung Jawa and Jambatan Pasar, have become popular attractions for visitors.

The idea was proposed by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who aims to make the National Day celebration memorable for tourists while fostering a sense of patriotism among Malaysians.

“This nation was formed by Malaysians, regardless of creed or race. We will come together to proudly celebrate our Merdeka and showcase to the tourists our pride of being citizens of this great nation.

“Let’s fly our Jalur Gemilang with zeal and pride with Melaka representing the essence of Malaysia,” he said yesterday.

Ab Rauf said Melaka’s rich culture and heritage reflect the country’s harmony among different races and its spirit of unity.

The theme for the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka,” highlights the integration of Malaysia’s diverse cultures and ethnicities.
