Najib's 1MDB trial: Interest element no essential ingredient to be proved, says prosecution

KUALA LUMPUR: The charge against Datuk Seri Najib Razak in relation to the RM2.3bil 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds clearly stated the place, time, date and his position as an officer of a public body, as well as the offence, which is using his position to obtain gratification, the High Court was told.

Replying to a question posed by the trial judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah on the placement of the interest element in the charge on Wednesday (Aug 21), Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said the interest element was not an essential ingredient to be proved under Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
