Baby dies, six others hurt in 4WD-SUV collision in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A baby was killed while six others sustained serious injuries following a collision between a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and an SUV in Kinabatangan, around midnight on Wednesday (Aug 14).

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene while the others suffered multiple bodily injuries in the accident near Jalan Kampung Paris 2, Kota Kinabatangan.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department officials did not name the baby but identified the injured victims as Mohd Juazri Jufri, Jamdeh Jalehani, 56, Roziana Aliskal, 35, Ranizah Aliskal, 22, Aliskal Basara, 57, and an unidentified male.

The impact of the crash caused all seven in the SUV to be pinned and trapped inside. However, the driver of the 4WD escaped with minor injuries.

Firemen received a distress call at 12.38am and arrived at the scene less than an hour later due to the distance from the station to the accident site.

Special extrication tools were used to get the victims out of the wrecked car before they could be sent to the hospital for treatment.

The deceased baby was handed over to the police for further action.

Operations on site ended at 4.15am after all hazardous elements were eliminated.
