Johor delegation meets DPM Fadillah to discuss water supply following JS-SEZ implementation

JOHOR BARU: The demand for water supply is expected to increase in the state following the implementation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who led the state delegation for a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on Friday (July 19), said the demand would surely increase along with the vast developments expected to take place along with the initiative.

“Matters like a new water supply model to data centres and other developments in Johor were brought up for discussion at the federal level.

“We also discussed Johor’s water sources and supply as well as the proposal of a project for a new water source,” he said in a Facebook post following the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, in Parliament.

Onn Hafiz added that with the federal government’s support, the state government was committed to ensuring sufficient water supply in Johor for domestic, commercial and industrial use.

“Various efforts are being undertaken carefully to increase the water supply capacity in line with the current needs. We are also planning for the medium and long term for the benefit of Johoreans.

“The state hopes that the plans presented to the federal government will be considered accordingly,” he added.
