KUALA LUMPUR: Drugs worth about RM9mil were seized within a day during a series of raids in the Klang Valley.
The raids, which were held on Wednesday, led to two separate seizures of RM4mil and RM5mil, said Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin.
In the first case, he said the police found drugs inside a man’s car when he was stopped in Desa Petaling.
“We found 120 packets containing crystals that we believe to be syabu. The drugs were estimated to weigh 126.18kg,” he said.
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect at a house here.
“No drugs were found in the second raid. We believe that the pair had been working as a drug transporter and storekeeper,” said Comm Khaw.
The suspects, aged 37 and 43, have been remanded for seven days.
One of them has a police record of five narcotics-related offences.
“We believe they have been active since the middle of 2023. Their modus operandi includes smuggling the drugs from a neighbouring country via land before distributing in the Klang Valley market,” he told a press conference at the police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
In the second case, Comm Khaw said police raided three areas, including two apartment units, in Cheras and Seri Kembangan. Two men aged 22 were arrested.
Police also found two drug storerooms. Among the drugs discovered during the raids were 9kg of ketamine, 165kg of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) and 1.6kg of cocaine.
One of the suspects was believed to be the storekeeper who was paid RM6,000 a month. The other was thought to be a runner who earned RM4,500 monthly.
“Both of them said they do not know who rented the apartment or how much was paid for rent,” said Comm Khaw.
They have been remanded for seven days.
