Four houses in Jelutong razed in early morning fire


GEORGE TOWN: A total of four houses in Jalan Bukit Dumbar, Jelutong, were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Saturday (July 6).

Firemen from Jalan Perak, assisted by others from Lebuh Pantai and Paya Terubong, rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 4.15am.

According to a statement by the Fire and Rescue Department, four houses, each measuring approximately 20 feet by 30 feet, sustained 90% damage from the incident.

"The fire also damaged several motorcycles belonging to residents.

"Fortunately, no victims were reported," it said.

Jelutong MP, RSN Rayer, who visited the scene later, said the state would assist the victims.

"Their houses have been completely destroyed.

"We will do our best to assist the families," he said.
