Longboat mishap victim found drowned


SIBU: The body of one of the two people feared drowned in Belaga has been found.

The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Balavishnu Permaloo from Kedah.

Rhuban Apparoo, 30, also from Kedah, is still missing and the search continues, the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in its daily update on Tuesday (June 18).

They were with three others who took a rented longboat for a leisure ride at about 4pm on Sunday (June 16) when it capsized after being hit by strong waves near Rumah Apan Menjawah, Belaga.

It added that Balavishnu's body was found by area residents at 1.15pm Tuesday, some 50m from the spot where the longboat sank.

The boat's skipper managed to save the other three passengers.
