Two feared drowned in Belaga longboat sinking

SIBU: Two people are feared to have drowned after their longboat sank in Belaga on Sunday (June 16), while three others survived the incident.

The two missing persons have been identified as Balavishnu Permaloo, 36, and Rhuban Apparoo, 30; both are from Kedah.

The State Fire and Rescue Department reported that at around 4pm, the group of five had rented a longboat from the residents of Rumah Apan Menjawah in Belaga, for a leisure trip.

"The boat encountered strong waves that caused it to capsize. The boat operator was able to rescue three passengers, but unfortunately, two are feared to have drowned," said the Department.

A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate the missing duo.
