Smooth sailing with QR code system


JOHOR BARU: After a week of anticipation, Rachelle Wong, one of the thousands of Malaysians commuting to Singapore daily for work, finally had the chance to experience the new QR code immigration clearance system.

The 19-year-old had eagerly awaited this opportunity, believing it would expedite immigration clearance at the land checkpoints.

Expressing her satisfaction, she remarked, “This is the first time I am using it, and so far, I have not faced any issues. It also makes things move faster. I was able to clear immigration within just a few seconds.”

Another Malaysian travelling by bus, mechanical engineer R. Kalesz, 39, lauded the adoption of the QR code system as a positive step towards enhancing immigration clearance efficiency.

“I tried the system for the first time on Friday, and so far, everything has been flowing smoothly.

“This is a very good improvement,” he said.

Meanwhile, motorcyclist Mohd Adam Saifuddin, 37, said he managed to use the QR system after several attempts.

“It is good that we could use both the MBike and QR code systems on the same scanners. At least if there is an issue with one, we can use the other,” said the technician.

BSI commuter, K. Pavithra, 27, said she is eager to try the new system.

“I have linked my passport through MyTRIP, just in case it can be used at the BSI,” she said.
