IPOH: A 30-year-old trader has been robbed of his gold necklace at his home in Buntong here by a machete-wielding man.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the victim was robbed of the necklace, believed to be worth RM15,000, during the incident at Jalan Coldstream on Wednesday (May 22) at about 2.55 am.

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the suspect, who drove a white-coloured sedan, had chased after the trader with the machete during the incident.

"The suspect, who was wearing a cap and face mask, managed to grab the trader's gold necklace during the incident," he said in a statement.

The statement was issued following a video of the incident uploaded to the "FTopNews" Facebook page.

In the five-minute and 34-second video, the suspect drove past the trader's house before reversing the vehicle and parking it in front of the house gate.

Shortly after, the suspect then walked towards the trader while pulling out a machete before chasing after him.

The suspect then ran back into his car before fleeing the scene.

Several people were then seen running out and trying to stop the suspect, including hitting the car, before it sped away.

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the police found the suspect's car, which had been left near a road in the same area.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

"Those with information or know the suspect are urged to come forward to the nearest police station or call investigating officer Insp Josin Amatin at 016-222 2491.

"We would like to advise the people to always be alert and to protect themselves and their properties to ensure any untoward incidents would not occur," he added.
