GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested three locals and three foreigners in three drug sting operations.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the first case, involving an overseas drug trafficking attempt, was foiled following the arrest of two Indonesian men at the Penang International Airport at 5.20pm on May 19.

“About 2kg of syabu and 10g of ecstasy pills worth RM64,700 were seized.

“Investigations found that they were attempting to travel out of the country with the drugs hidden in their luggage,” he told a press conference at the state contingent police headquarters here yesterday.

Police then busted a drug processing laboratory operating in a terrace house in Taman Sri Rambai in Bukit Mertajam and arrested three suspects at about 5.30pm on May 20.

“Two locals and a Nepalese were arrested in the operation. A total of 8.47kg of heroin and 377g of heroin base worth RM117,000 were seized.

“We believe they started their operation at the end of last year. The total value of drugs, including four vehicles and jewellery seized, amounted to RM223,800,” Comm Hamzah said.

He added that the 35-year-old Nepalese, who is believed to be the “cook” to produce the drugs, then led police to arrest the two locals.

In the third operation, the police seized 0.3g of syabu and two.38 live bullets at about 11.30am in Bayan Lepas on May 20.

Comm Hamzah said a 50-year-old Malaysian man who tested positive for methamphetamine and had a criminal record was also arrested.

All cases are being investigated under various sections, including the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
