Pharmacist killed in car-lorry collision in Sungai Petani


SUNGAI PETANI: A pharmacist was killed and her friend suffered serious injuries after their vehicle collided with a lorry along Jalan Sidam here.

The victim, Siti Aisyah Idris, 23, who was driving the car, died on the spot, while her friend, also 23, was rushed to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

"The district police were notified of the accident at 9.30 pm," said Kuala Muda OCPD Senior Asst Comm Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail.

He said initial investigations showed that the car was travelling to Kulim and the lorry to Sungai Petani, but the lorry swerved into the other lane while trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle.

"The lorry driver has been arrested after testing positive for methamphetamine and morphine and is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," said SAC Wan Azharuddin in a statement on Thursday (May 23).
