KOTA KINABALU: Marine police arrested two men in a land operation against the misappropriation of subsidised fuel in Penampang near here.

Acting on a tip-off, a team raided a storehouse in Kampung Minintod at about 2.45pm on Wednesday (May 15).

Region Four Marine Police Commander Asst Comm Ahmad Ariffin said the suspects were channelling fuel from a tank to a tanker lorry when they stormed the location.

“Further checks led to the discovery of 13,400 litres of diesel along with oil drums, a pumping machine and hoses,” he said when contacted on Thursday (May 16).

"The men were detained after they failed to furnish any document or evidence that allowed them to possess, keep, or transport controlled items,” he added.

He said they also seized the tanker lorry and a four-wheel drive vehicle.

“The seized items worth over RM184,000 will be handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry office here for further investigations under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” he said.
