Filial piety repaid with win

SHAH ALAM: A son’s selflessness in taking care of his elderly mother has been rewarded after he was named Majoriti’s Langgan & Menang (Subscribe and Win) campaign grand prize winner.

Roslizam Ramlee, 44, has been bringing his 78-year-old mother for dialysis appointments three times a week for the past 10 years after she suffered kidney problems.

He currently lives with his mother and elder sister who has Down Syndrome.

The graphic designer, who was previously working in Kuala Lumpur, decided to quit his job to look after his mother.

“I am the fifth of eight siblings and I decided to take on the responsibility to take care of my mother since all my siblings are married with families.

“But in all honesty, it is my elder sister with Down Syndrome who takes care of our mother and I am just the one who drives her to the hospital for appointments,” he said when met after the prize-giving ceremony at OSK Mori Park Sales Gallery here yesterday.

Roslizam won a unit at Lea by the Hills condominium developed by OSK Property Holdings Bhd worth RM602,800.

As a follower of Star Media Group (SMG) platforms, Roslizam said he had renewed his subscription with Majoriti after hearing about the campaign on Suria FM last year.

“I did not think that I would win the grand prize. Obviously, I am surprised and happy.

“My family members were surprised and they were ecstatic with the news. I haven’t decided what to do yet with the unit,” he added.

From Aug 17 until Dec 20 last year, Majoriti readers stood a chance to win grand prizes as well as weekly prizes when they signed up for a RM30 one-year subscription plan in conjunction with its second-year anniversary campaign.

The second prize winners were Ahmad Syamil Ahmad Termizi and Jeevarupini Gnanendran, who each won RM25,000 worth of AEON Co (M) Bhd gift vouchers.

The third prize went to Karyn Ong and Agnes Lee Yin Seong. They won Ogawa massage chairs worth RM19,999 each.

Jeevarupini, 34, from Ara Damansara said she was surprised with her win after signing up for a subscription plan in September last year.

“I was aiming for the grand prize but winning the second prize is equally great because we often shop at AEON. We hope to buy a new fridge with the prize,” she said.

Other winners of the campaign were Nooraini Mohd Noor and Amri Abd Aziz, who each won a holiday package to Taiwan for two worth RM10,000.

“I was really surprised because I was selected as one of the winners and coincidentally, my wife and I were planning for a family vacation so this is a ‘rezeki’ (blessing) for us,” Amri said.

SMG group chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt said there has been a significant increase in subscription and engagement for Majoriti, confirming its role as a lifestyle beacon for readers.

“The surge of readers goes beyond numbers; it reflects a deep-seated trust in our ability to deliver thoughtful and engaging content.

“The goal of the Langgan & Menang campaign was to transform the everyday act of reading into a rewarding experience for readers.

“Every element, from the accessible one-year subscription plan to the exhilarating weekly prizes, was designed with our readers in mind, making every interaction with Majoriti a delight,” he said.

Chan also expressed thanks to OSK Property Holdings Bhd for hosting the prize-giving ceremony at the sales gallery of Mori Park – a new iconic township in Section 13, Shah Alam, that offers easy access to various existing public amenities such as grocery stores, recreational centers, medical facilities, educational institutions and offices.

Also present at the event were OSK Property Holdings Bhd chief executive officer Ong Ghee Bin, AEON Co (M) Bhd chief merchandise and marketing officer Low Ngai Yuen, Ogawa Malaysia head of marketing Lee Sin Yen, Berjaya Starbucks Coffee Company marketing and category director Zakiah Hanim, Chef Wan Group of Restaurants PR customer service and marketing manager Natasha Nazri, as well as Spectrum Outdoor Marketing Sdn Bhd managing director Henry Low.
