KKB polls: Focus on local issues, Azalina advises Pakatan candidate

HULU SELANGOR: Focus on local issues and don’t take the people for a ride, Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has advised Pakatan Harapan’s candidate Pang Sock Tao.

“If you want to be an assemblyman, you have to focus on local issues. Don’t sell many points, but once you win, you’re nowhere to be seen nor fulfil your promises,” said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) as her advice to Pang, who is standing as Pakatan’s candidate for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Azalina said this to reporters after joining Pang on her walkabout here on Tuesday (April 30).

When asked if Pang’s age (31) would be a limiting factor in winning the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat, Azalina said there was no issue.

“Political maturity is more important. The same goes for a party’s strength, where seniors can share advice and function as a support system.

“To me, this support system will help a representative serve better regardless of whether they are new,” said Azalina, the Pengerang MP.

The Pakatan Harapan youth chief, Dr Kelvin Yii, Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan, and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei were also present during the walkabout.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election sees a four-cornered fight between candidates from Pakatan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent candidate.

It was held after the demise of Lee on March 21 due to cancer.

Polling day is on May 11, with early voting on March 7.

The by-election is the seventh to be held after the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.

Meanwhile, Azalina brushed aside questions about the timing of Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli being called to give his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier Tuesday.

“How would I know? I’m not the MACC commissioner.

“It is the right of the agency to investigate, and they are an independent body.

“I am not involved,” she said.
