Tok Pa conferred top Japanese honour for his contributions

KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has been conferred the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun by the government of Japan for his outstanding contributions to Japan-Malaysia relationships.

In a statement, the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia announced that Mustapa, who also served as international trade and industry minister, was honoured with the decoration in conjunction with the 2024 Spring Imperial Conferment.

"As international trade and industry minister, he strengthened Japan-Malaysia trade and economic relations through promoting Malaysia’s participation in the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) and developing the Look East Policy,” it said.

The statement read that Mustapa had also strengthened Japan-Malaysia energy relationships by providing a stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan and announcing Malaysia’s support to the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC). - Bernama
