PETALING JAYA: The sounds of some 300 missiles and drones launched by Iran into Israel was unexpected and something usually only seen in war movies.
But this was not a show on television, instead the live terrifying sound was too real for Malaysian Muhammad Syahmi Yusran, 20.
The Syariah student at Jerash University in Jordan, was fearful after seeing orange flares lighting up the night sky.
“My friends and I were sitting in the hall, unaware of what was going on at around 1am in Jordan.
“Suddenly, in the chat group there were messages flooding about the missile attack. We stepped out to see the situation and immediately started to pray, not knowing what would happen.
“The Malaysian embassy had already advised us and was very much concerned about our situation here,” he told The Star.
Muhammad Syahmi, who hails from Selangor, has been in Jordan for the past two years, but expressed his concern about the situation in the region.
Another student, Muhammad Alif Mohd Anuar, 20, from Johor said he is mentally prepared for any eventuality.
The Quran and Qirat (recitations) student from World Islamic Sciences and Education University in Tabarbaur, Jordan, was sleeping and was awakened when the missile attacks took place.
“I woke up shocked after the shutters of my house started to shake. I got up and saw the missiles in the sky.
“At first I panicked but decided to go back to sleep because I had classes to attend in the morning,” he said.
Muhammad Alif hoped there are evacuation plans in place for Malaysians by the government should the situation get worse.
He also urged everyone to pray for their safety in Jordan and neighbouring countries.
Malaysian TikTok user @symphone0035 posted a video on Monday of the missiles from his apartment in Jordan.
“This recording from my friend and I, who are currently in Jordan. Pray for us,” he wrote.
On Saturday night, Iran unleashed a flurry of missiles and drones in retaliation of Israel’s alleged strike on April 1 against its consulate in Damascus, which killed 13 people.
Following the attack, Wisma Putra warned all Malaysians currently in Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq to be fully prepared to have their schedules disrupted after tensions escalated between Iran and Israel.
