Maritime safety reminder for Hari Raya

PUTRAJAYA: The maritime community is advised to focus on safety at sea and take heed of weather warnings during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency director- general Admiral Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin said warnings of heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas issued by MetMalaysia should not be taken lightly.

“This is especially when the country is celebrating Hari Raya during the inter-monsoon period which started on March 29 and is expected to continue until May.

“We wish to remind those travelling by boat or ferry to return to their village or visit the islands to ensure that life jackets are provided by boat or ferry operators.

“Also ensure that overloading does not occur to avoid any untoward incident at sea,” he said in a statement yesterday.
